Site Types

There is no single system for classifying a variety of websites; however we can divide sites into several broad types based on their function.

Business cards
This type of website is very simple; it contains several static pages with company information and contacts. It essentially functions as the company’s booklet placed on the web. With limited features and a lack of interactivity, it’s a very primitive website, mainly used by small firms.

Corporate site
This is a more extensive type of corporate presentation, with a number of diverse interactive functions and services. In comparison with the “business card” type of site, the “Corporate site” is more complex and includes not only static, but also dynamic data as well (e.g. product databases). Feedback capabilities are also included, such as forums, question forms, subscription forms etc. This type of site provides a full company presentation for viewing by customers and partners.

Online store
Basically this is a product catalog combined with the ability to place online orders, select delivery options and accept payments. It also provides information concerning the terms of delivery, payment and service along with general information about the company. The online store is a popular solution nowadays because it helps increase company sales without having to create and maintain a costly “real” store.

Web portal
A web portal presents a vast amount of information pertaining to a specific subject (for instance, for a type of product, a specific market or country). The information can be gathered from different sources and usually includes news, features, analysis etc, which is regularly updated. Portals have extensive search capabilities. This type of sites attracts visitors who want to access related news and information in one location. If it is well promoted and regularly updated, portals that have large amounts of content can be a source of income, as you have the ability to sell advertisement space on its pages. You may also use a web portal to promote your company’s goods or services.

Promo site
This is an advertisement billboard placed on the web. Usually it presents a specific brand or product or promotional deal. Promotional sites use a combination of Flash, video and sound to create a full-featured multimedia presentation. They work together with the main company site.

Things you need to know:

Web design that wins them over

Currently 64% of people spend 40% of their time online and your website is often their first point of contact in getting to know your business. The web design for your site determines what impression they get and how much you stand out in an ever-expanding Internet.

How easy it is for your customers to navigate your site? How convenient is it for you to update your menus or images? Don’t let a poor or outdated web design hold you back.

Logos that people love

A logo is a visual concept and the face of your company. Though it may be tempting to choose a logo that closely suits your own personal taste, it is important to remember that ultimately it is your customers who must find your logo memorable and appealing.

Graphic Designers invest time and energy into understanding and creating logos that work – logos that are distinctive, in line with your desired image, and resonate with your target audience.

Graphic design that grabs attention

Is graphic design an art or a profession? Is a graphic designer just a person who knows how to use graphics software, or someone with strong opinions about fonts, composition and color? When is graphic design useful?

Great graphic design is art with a purpose. It’s the logo in your email signature, the fliers you hand out at a conference or a catchy visual in a Power Point presentation. It quietly enhances and promotes your company’s reputation and message on a daily basis.
